Futuristic Sophistication: PA Consulting’s Global Innovation and Technology Centre Gets a Sustainable Transformation
PA Consulting, known for its cutting-edge solutions and innovative approach, recently embarked on an exciting project to modernize their Global Innovation and Technology Centre (GITC) in Cambridge. Originally designed by the renowned architectural duo Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano in 1975, the facility needed a refresh to reflect PA’s forward-thinking vision. GTA was entrusted with the architectural transformation, focusing on elevating the visitor experience while incorporating modern, sustainable design elements.
The project’s scope included an expanded entrance, a redesigned lobby and atrium, and an updated approach to the building for better visitor access. The new entrance, with its striking floating canopy and redefined roadway, creates a dramatic sense of arrival. The external landscaping, featuring tiered gabion walls, fresh paving, and dynamic lighting, enhances the building’s contemporary look. Inside, the expansive atrium, oak-clad bleacher seating, and terrazzo steps lead to the main reception area and meeting rooms. These spaces are equipped with integrated digital displays and acoustic treatments, showcasing PA’s technological expertise.
A key element of the refurbishment was the flooring, which played an integral role in both the aesthetic and functional design. GTA selected modulyss flooring as the ideal solution to meet the project’s high standards. The raised floors provided enhanced flexibility for electrical installations, allowing the building to accommodate PA Consulting’s advanced technological requirements. The carpet design also improved acoustics, creating an optimal environment for meetings and collaboration.
Environmental sustainability was a key consideration throughout the project, and the flooring was chosen with this in mind. The materials used were aligned with the RICS Ska Rating system, and modulyss’ eco-friendly options helped support the project’s overall sustainability goals. The flooring design, featuring a blend of perforated black metal, grey terrazzo stone, and oak joinery, harmonized with the building’s modern aesthetic, reinforcing the innovative atmosphere of the GITC.
The newly reimagined building approach ensures a seamless visitor experience. The lobby and atrium create a welcoming and versatile space for events and meetings, while the café offers a comfortable spot for informal conversations. The cohesive flooring design ties all these areas together, balancing both functionality and style.
With this refurbishment, the GITC has been transformed into a modern, sustainable, and highly functional space that exceeds PA Consulting’s expectations. The successful integration of modulyss’ flooring solutions highlights the importance of thoughtful design and sustainability in creating spaces that inspire innovation and support collaboration.
