The Vision: Historic English Pub Meets Boutique Hotel
On the corner of Sheep Street in Charlbury — in the exact spot it has stood for 500 years — the Bull Inn welcomes travellers and countryside explorers alike.
Originally a coaching inn from the early 1500s, it has been recently refurbished to combine historic character (barns, stables, exposed timber beams, claw‑foot tubs) with a refined boutique‑hotel feel.
In the guest rooms and common areas alike, the goal was to preserve the charm of the past while delivering modern comfort — including a flooring solution that would be both beautiful and resilient.

The Project: Studio Squire
The inn’s owners engaged London‑based interior designer Studio Squire to identify a flooring product with three key attributes:

Contract‑grade durability to support heavy foot traffic.

The natural look of sisal or seagrass.

A classic English herringbone weave pattern.
SynSisal’s Astoria weave delivered on all three. Studio Squire received free carpet swatches and selected Astoria Honey after testing several styles, resulting in polished finish details — including carpet up stair risers, neatly meeting tile borders and stone walls.
